Today, the influence of GAFAM (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft) in the IT society continues to grow stronger. Whenever a new market emerges, they leverage their control to enter it. However, on the other hand, there are various emerging technology fields like OpenAI that compel structural changes across the entire industry. It is unclear from which field the next wave of new technology will arise. We will continue to explore trends in various entry fields while considering new product concepts.
In developing new products, it is essential to recognize that technology alone does not create added value. True value emerges only when technology effectively solves the problems faced by users. For example, Google made significant advancements as a search engine by deploying a vast number of low-cost servers globally and connecting them through fiber-optic networks, dramatically enhancing search performance. Rakuten achieved remarkable growth by recruiting many top salespeople from Recruit Co., Ltd., who actively visited stores nationwide to secure shop agreements, eventually becoming Japan’s largest online shopping mall by the number of stores. Similarly, Amazon established distribution centers across the globe, enabling a system capable of delivering products within two days. These cases illustrate that addressing user needs through strategic combinations of technology, infrastructure, and human resources is fundamental to creating meaningful added value.
By deeply understanding societal issues and combining ideas with technology, we can create business models that generate added value.
